About Us

The principle purpose of the BDA is to be recognised as a leading professional design force in the building industry.

The BDA consists of a dedicated group of professionals who prepare documentation for about 40% of all building work carried out in NSW. The Building Designers Association is a mature and active association which enjoys a high level of respect from the public, manufacturers and all levels of government.

The BDA is seen as the premier association of Building Designers and it jealously guards this reputation. Members are bound by a Code of Ethics and encouraged to operate at the highest professional level at all times. The Association encourages design excellence from its members and promotes the benefits of good building design to the public.

The BDA is active in the development of education and training standards relevant to the building design profession and is now recognised by governments and educational institutions as the leading professional body for building designers in NSW.

Mission Statement 

  1. To promote and enhance the profession of Building Design.
  2. To provide consumer awareness of Building Designers and of their contribution to the Building Industry and the wider community.
  3. To promote and achieve the highest degree of professionalism amongst Building Designers.
  4. To promote and encourage ethical conduct and sound business practice in the Building Design profession.
  5. To promote consumer protection by advocating that all members carry Professional Indemnity Insurance.
  6. To maintain an on-going professional development program, including annual conferences.
  7. To hold annual Building Design Awards to promote excellence in Building Design.
  8. To be active in the development of education and training standards relevant to the Building Design profession.
  9. To establish and promote guidelines for achieving higher standards in Building Design and Documentation.
  10. To be active in the development of Standards, By Laws, Legislation and Documentation relevant to the Building Design Profession.
  11. To liaise with Federal, State and Local Government on matters relating to Building Design, with the express aim of achieving a better built environment.
  12. To support the rights of Building Designers who become the subject of victimisation, suffer prejudice or could be detrimentally affected by the actions of others.

Code of Ethics 

  1. Members shall faithfully and diligently carry out their duties in the knowledge that their prime allegiance is to the maintenance and promotion of the highest standards to the community in the built environment with consumer protection being paramount.
  2. Members shall continuously improve their knowledge of the profession by keeping informed about changes in the building industry and associated legislation, to the end that the public may be consistently receive greater value for it’s investment
  3. Members shall conduct themselves so as to uphold the dignity and reputation of the profession, and shall at all times avoid any actions which could impair their integrity or bring the Building Designers Association into disrepute.
  4. Members shall, without fear or favour, perform duties for which they are accountable with perseverance, tact and impartiality.
  5. Members shall maintain confidentiality with clients in the course of their business transactions.
  6. Members shall not act in any way which could injure the professional reputation of a member of the Building Designers Association.
  7. Members shall at all times have proper regard to the objects of the Rules of Association and shall not take any action which does not comply with the policy of the Association or which conflicts with the Articles of Association.
  8. Members shall promote and achieve the highest degree of professionalism amongst Building Designers.
  9. Members shall promote consumer protection by advocating that all members carry Professional Indemnity Insurance.
  10. Members shall pursue, promote and establish guidelines for achieving higher standards in Building Design and Documentation.

PLEDGE
Members of the Association will promote the building industry and design profession to the benefit of all. Members will assume the abovementioned responsibilities freely and solemnly, mindful that the above are part of their obligation as members of the Building Designers Association.
